Who knew that Batman was 75 years old. Let’s face it Batman is probably older than your parents. Wow. To commemorate this amazing milestone, April has been official named Batman Month by DC Comics on DCComics.com. Last week, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment also announced a year-long anniversary celebration honoring Batman’s 75th year and worldwide entertainment legacy.
Beginning today, DCComics.com will showcase at least one cool Batman feature on their homepage and on Batman75.com for the entire month of April. Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment also have revealed plans for a year-long celebration befitting the world’s most popular Super Hero. Highlights of the anniversary program include a new commemorative 75th anniversary Batman logo and an exclusive “Cape/Cowl/Create” art exhibit, featuring 20 contemporary artists’ interpretation of The Dark Knight’s iconic cowl headpiece and cape from the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight videogame. Batman Day – DC Entertainment is also partnering with thousands of comic retailers, book stores and libraries for “Batman Day” on Wednesday, July 23. Each location will host a Batman 75th anniversary celebration and offer fans a free, special edition Batman comic.
Interactive Entertainment – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has invited celebrated fashion designer Asher Levine to create a cape and cowl based on the Batsuit of the recently announced Batman: Arkham Knight videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios. Favorite contemporary artists will have the opportunity to use the replicas as a blank canvas to produce their own, original interpretations of Batman’s iconic attire for an all new “Cape/Cowl/Create” art exhibit that will be showcased at San Diego Comic-Con International in July.
Home Entertainment – Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will bring fans an array of new Batman titles throughout the year, including the highly anticipated release of the Batman ’66 TV series for the first time ever. Other new releases include animated films Son of Batman (May 6) and Assault on Arkham (summer 2014). Additionally, a 25th Anniversary Edition of Tim Burton’s Batman feature film will be released in the fall.
Animation – Warner Bros. Animation has created two all-new Batman animated shorts set for debut in April, with fan-favorite producers Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) and Darwyn Cooke (Batman Beyond) each presenting a unique and familiar take on the Batman animated universe. In addition, Timm will participate in a Batman 75th all-star panel at WonderCon in Anaheim on Saturday, April 19, which will also feature an exclusive premiere of Cooke’s animated short based upon Batman Beyond.
Television – Warner Bros. Television is in production on the pilot episode of the highly anticipated Gotham, a new one-hour drama for FOX which explores the origin stories of eventual police commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham City famous. In Gotham, Detective Gordon (Ben McKenzie – Southland) will encounter a familiar cast of characters – including a young Bruce Wayne – as he fights to keep the city safe. Executive producer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome) wrote the pilot, which is being directed by executive producer Danny Cannon (CSI series, Nikita)
Pictures – As Batman’s 75th anniversary is celebrated in 2014, Warner Bros. Pictures will begin production of Zack Snyder’s untitled Superman/Batman film starring Henry Cavill, who reprises his role as Superman/Clark Kent, and Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. The film, slated for release summer 2016, will bring the two most iconic Super Heroes of all time together for the first time on the big screen.
Consumer Products – Warner Bros. Consumer Products has partnered with an array of licensees to celebrate Batman’s 75th Anniversary through special edition and limited-release products. From the classic 1960s TV series to modern day comics, Batman’s presence will be larger than ever in celebration of his legacy through everything from toys to t-shirts.

When we started Mankind Unplugged, we never would have imagined that we’d talk about topics like building an engine. After all, we are girls – we thought we would tell you guys about what we know best – namely fashion, relationship advice, and a bit of offbeat news. But, thanks to Valvoline, we were given an all-access look at the new Valvoline Reinvention Project. We even learned a little about building an engine at Hendrick Motorsports Facilities in Concord, NC. Hendrick Performance is one of the country’s most renowned facilities in racing. Utilizing the best restoration equipment, mechanics, specialists, and cutting-edge machinery, Hendrick is well known for building state-of-the-art custom vehicles.
Valvoline was partnered with the Hendrick Motorsports team from 1993 to ’95, when they won their first Cup championship with legendary driver Jeff Gordon behind the wheel. Through 2017, Valvoline will again be the official lubricant for the team’s racing cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Sprint Cup drivers and Hendrick teammates Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt Jr., will serve as spokespeople to promote the petrol product. To celebrate rekindling their relationship with one of NASCAR’s most revered teams, Valvoline invited us for a first look at the two classic Chevy trucks transformed by Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Before we impressed everyone with our DIY skills in Valvoline’s Engine Builders’ Boot Camp, we attended the Reinvention Project truck big reveal. The trucks were unveiled to us before Jimmie and Dale Jr. even saw the finished products. Fans have the opportunity to get in on the action until March 31, 2014, so you can still guess what the guys used to turn their trucks into high-performance vehicles. We can’t reveal what the trucks look like, but we can tell you that they are awesome! Not only do they look great, the engines sound incredible. We were afforded an opportunity to do truck ride-alongs at the Zmax Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway before Jimmie and Dale Jr. jumped behind the wheels of their reinvented trucks for a challenge and commercial shoot with Valvoline. Oh yeah, did we mention we also had a chance to interview the guys?
As NASCAR fans and car enthusiasts, the chance to go behind the scenes at the 100-plus-acre, world-class Hendrick Performance Complex was surreal. Learning about building an engine side-by-side with guys who helped build powerful NASCAR engines was an honor and a privilege. Hendrick’s engine shop supplies engines to 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup teams, 5 teams in the Nationwide series, and 2 Camping Truck outfits. While we were there, we built a Chevrolet R07.2 engine with the help of Hendrick master technicians who were impressed with our skills in the shop. As one tech said, “You know your way around some tools.”

From time to time Mankind Unplugged is asked to review some rather cool gadgets. After seeing how excited our good friend Sujeet over at Guys Gab was when discussing this new cool dashcam we received, we decided to let him give it a test run. Below is what Sujeet had to say about the Papago P2 Pro Dashcam.
Last year, a meteor crashed in Russia, and many people wondered how we got so many great videos of that random event? It turns out that there’s so much corruption over there in the courts and in law enforcement in particular that the only way for citizens to protect themselves against false charges or claims of liability is to have proof. Hence everybody has dashcams in their cars.
Dashcams range in price and quality, and it’s one of those areas where “you get what you pay for”. So when I decided to get a dashcam for myself, my research led me to the Papago P2 Pro Dashcam. This bad boy records Full HD 1080P at 30FPS, ensuring that the footage you capture is of the highest quality. And if you’d prefer to record longer at a slightly lower resolution, you can set the dashcam to record at 720P @ 60GPS or 30FPS.
The P2 Pro’s wide 130-degree viewing angle makes sure that you don’t miss a thing. It also supports cycle recording, which allows old files to be automatically replaced with new files. After all, if you’re recording footage for your own protection, and you have an uneventful drive to work, why would you want to save that?

As soon as NASCAR released their 2014 schedule, I marked my calendar. Although I have been to my fair share of NASCAR races, it would be my first time at my home track, the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Fontana is a far cry from Hollywood, but that didn’t stop some notable athletes and entertainers (or me) from making the hour-long drive from Los Angeles to hang out with NASCAR’s best. Well-known celebrities in attendance included Actor Terry Crews (Expendables, Everybody Hates Chris, Old Spice Commercials), Anthony Anderson, Flex Alexander, Asher Roth, Jenny Johnson, and former WWE and WCW star Bill Goldberg.
Billy Ray Cyrus –nowadays well known as Miley’s dad– also delighted fans as he hit the main stage for a pre-race concert. If that wasn’t enough, The Great Gonzo from the legendary Muppets crew graced the track with his presence. Former NFL quarterback now FOX Sports Live analyst Donovan McNabb made an appearance at the track as well. If you recall, Donovan stirred up controversy with NASCAR nation when he said he didn’t consider Jimmie Johnson an athlete. When asked about this, he said he was sticking to his story.
After I checked out all the famous folks during the pre-race action and walked the grid before the engines fired, I staked out a spot on pit road. Thanks to the good folks over at Valvoline, along with the help of NASCAR, I was able to score a hot pass to the sold-out race. If you aren’t familiar with a hot pass, having one affords you the opportunity to hang out in the garages before the race and on pit road during the race. As I made my way down pit road, I observed a rather cool dude in Dale Jr.’s pit guzzling one of the new Mtn Dew Kickstart shortly after the race started. It was at this moment I realized it would be interesting to observe what most of these guys do during the race, which can span hours. As I walked up and down pit road, I paid attention to how people passed the free time during the race. Don’t get me wrong, these guys work hard. Calling 50 Cent a rapper would be remiss. As if acting wasn’t enough, 50 Cent is flexing that power as Executive Producer of a STARZ Original Series show appropriately titled “Power.” The show which was created by Courtney Kemp Agboh (The Good Wife) is a visionary crime drama set in two different worlds – the glamorous New York club scene and the brutal drug trade. 50 will have a recurring role of Kanan, an old friend of the main charector James “Ghost” St. Patrick’s played by Omari Hardwick. Other cast members include Lela Loren, Joseph Sikora, and Naturi Naughton who will play the role of Ghost’s wife and confidant, Tasha St. Patrick. Naughton is best known for her role as Lil’ Kim in the biopic film Notorious about the life and murder of The Notorious B.I.G. After watching the trailer we were hooked (no pun intended). Croatia designer/illustrator Filip Peraić took his love for NBA baller James Harden’s beard to a new level by creating a host of illustrations profiling the breaded one’s facial hair through various mediums and styles. He considers his illustrations of Harden’s beard to be a personal project to sharpen his creativity. “This experiment is like training ground for a creative mind” and that the “project is about avoid enslaving an expression to one style/concept,” he said. We arrived at the track equipped with everything we needed for our challenge: Deodorant, heart rate monitor, and a GoPro Hero3+ to capture the moment. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff at Exotic Racing and given an overview on safety and what we could expect on the track. It was raining a bit, so things were slightly cooled off until we got behind the wheel. With the motor revving and hearts racing, things heated up pretty quickly. If you have never been behind the wheel of a world-class machine like the Ferrari, all we can say is that hearing the sound of one of the best sports cars ever made gives you an indescribable feeling.
We experienced the incredible power and handling of the Ferrari, but admittedly, we are sure we would have burned more rubber if it weren’t for our private instructor keeping us in check at every turn. Like Speed Stick®, women were engineered for advanced performance (in our minds), so the thought of a man telling us what to do was beyond us. Even still, heart rates rose as we rode around the track, but the only noticeable aroma was that clean new-car scent. Since the deodorant did its job and kept us dry, the Girl in a Ferrari challenge was no sweat.
Oh, and if you were wondering what happened on the track between Mankind Unplugged and Man Jr.,… well, let’s just say we showed Jr. a thing or two.
