Whether playing full-tackle football for the Lingerie Football League’s (LFL) Philadelphia Passion on MTV2, or posing in Playboy, fashion model and holistic health pro Tanyka Renee is in control both on and off the field. An Ayuverdic Practitioner and Certified Holistic Nutritional Counselor, Tanyka’s dedication to health and fitness along with her enthusiasm for the game of football is what many men dream of… that is, if you like a smart, athletic, intelligent, sexy, naturally curvy woman who happens to know a lot about sports. From talking about her choice for MVP, Mark Sanchez, to the violent streak she exhibits while playing football in her lingerie, our Tam-Star had a chance to sit down and learn more about Ms. Tanyka Renee’s insatiable attitude towards living life to the fullest.

Tam-Star: I’m sure everybody is asking you about Playboy. Can you tell us a little bit about what made you decide to do Playboy?

Tanyka: I always wanted to do Playboy; it is the number one men’s magazine. So when the league and Playboy got together and decided to do a spread, of course, I jumped on it. They chose one girl from each team and I was lucky enough to be chosen from the Philadelphia team.

Tam-Star: Now that you have done Playboy and you’re a member of the Lingerie Football League, how do you think guys react to the combination?

Tanyka: They usually don’t take the football seriously, especially if you’re a guy and you have never seen the game, they’re going to think oh, these girls are in Playboy, they’re not really playing football. They’re a bunch of models running around trying not to break nails. We’re going in, we’re hitting hard; we’re trying to kill each other. We suffer the same injuries of the NFL.

Tam-Star: So how did you become interested in the Lingerie Football League (LFL)?

Tanyka: I’ve always been competitive. I played sports in high school and college. A friend of mine who played out in Miami told me about it and I had to find out how I could be a part of it. I started playing on the New York team as a corner back. And yeah, it was just something I had to do.

Tam-Star: Going back to the NFL for a minute — speaking of New York — who is your MVP Mark Sanchez or Tom Brady?

Tanyka: Mark Sanchez.

Tam-Star: And why? Most girls think he’s hot, but why would you choose Mark as opposed to Tom?

Tanyka: You know what, to me, I feel as though Tom Brady is great, he’s a great quarterback. But I still like Mark Sanchez, he has a little more character, meaning he still has room to grow. He’s made a lot of mistakes, but he’s still growing. And that’s what I like. I always root for the underdog. And I’d love to see Mark Sanchez five years from now, you know, how he’s out there playing. I think he’ll do great.

Tam-Star: Well, I’ve been a Jets fan since ’98, so definitely Mark would be my choice. Who makes your Pro Bowl, would it be Peyton Manning or Michael Vick, and of course since you’re playing for Philly I hope you would pick Michael Vick, but…

Tanyka: Vick, Vick, Vick, yeah, you know, Michael Vick is a great, great athlete. A lot of people are very, very hard on him, but he’s a great, great athlete, he’s good at what he does. He goes out there. I wish his offensive line did a better job, but he goes out there and he’s running the ball. He runs the ball like he’s not a quarterback. He runs the ball like he’s a running back. He can take hits. He’s just doing his thing out there.

Tam-Star: Definitely, definitely. Okay, so who’s your favorite Lingerie Football player and why?

Tanyka: I would have to go with my teammate, Mary Rose Roach, she’s the number one running back in the league — sweetheart, great athlete, and she is very, very down to earth. Even when she’s hurt, she’ll tell us that she’s not hurt. She just wants to win. She’s very, very humble. She’s a role model for me.

Tam-Star: Guys definitely need a little help when it comes to on the field play. What dating moves would you suggest?

Tanyka: I’d say be themselves. A lot of guys nowadays are trying to become someone else, whether it’s on TV or just some guy they know that’s probably getting a bunch of girls. Just be yourselves. If a girl likes you she’s going to like you for you.

Tam-Star: Yeah, that’s true. So on that note, what would you consider the perfect date?

Tanyka: Something different, something spontaneous. I like a guy to be different; let’s not just go to the movies or out to eat. Let’s go bungee jumping or take a helicopter ride, or something crazy.

Tam-Star: Since you said bungee jumping, how do you spend your free time? Are you bungee jumping in your free time?

Tanyka: Well, I like to live life to the fullest. You know, I’m a holistic nutritionist so during my free time I like to travel a lot and travel to different countries and educate myself. Yes, I do sky dive, bungee jump, and I live my life to the fullest.

Tam-Star: You mentioned that you’re a nutritionist, so what type of nutrition advice would you give? You have a great body so I’m sure a lot of men and women are looking at you like how can I achieve this body as well?

Tanyka: Thank you. My advice is stay away from soda and all the processed foods. Incorporate a lot of water in your diet, whole vegetables, fruits, ancient grains like quinao, kamut, spelt…definitely stay away from processed food.

Tam-Star: What is the best thing about playing in the Lingerie Football League?

Tanyka: The best thing about playing is actually playing; it’s just a rush when you go out there and hit someone, it feels good to knock the wind out of someone; like that’s the best feeling ever.

Tam-Star: Does it [Lingerie Football] bring out the violent streak in you?

Tanyka: Yeah, like I’m a very, very calm, very thoughtful. And football, again, it’s almost like it brings out my alter ego; I’m very aggressive on the field, I get a little crazy, I talk down to my opponents. So yeah, I guess it does bring out my violent side. It allows me to release.

Tam-Star: What’s the best thing about playing full contact sport with another woman? Think about [Tam-Star laughs] it before you answer that question.

Tanyka: It’s great because you know when we’re out there playing we forget that we’re in lingerie. We totally, totally forget it. Yes, of course we might have wardrobe malfunctions, but we’re not thinking about that, we get to knock another girl’s head off.

Tam-Star: The sex thing seems to be what people want to talk about as opposed to acknowledging these are girls that are really out there playing that have the skills to play football.

Tanyka: It’s unfortunate you know, because we are athletes first before sex symbols.

Tam-Star: If you were stuck on an island, what NFL team would you choose to be stranded with and why?

Tanyka: Hm, the Jets.

Tam-Star: The Jets, and why is that? You like Rex Ryan?

Tanyka: They [New York Jets] have a great defense, safeties, corners…corners and safeties got the best bodies.

Tam-Star: Hey, great answer. Great answer.

Tam-Star: What would people be surprised to know about Tanyka?

Tanyka: I’m a big, big, big sci-fi fan. I like Star Wars, Star Trek, you know, I’m just a big sci-fi fan and a little nerdy. I’m into computer programming and all of that.

Tam-Star: Get out of here. I’m like a huge sci-fi fan too!

Tam-Star: Before we get started, I wanted to say congratulations on winning the 2010 UFC MMA Octagon Girl Award.

Arianny: Thank you.

Tam-Star: How was it winning the award?

Arianny: It was pretty exciting. It’s actually my third time winning it, but this time there was a huge production with the awards show and everything. It was really nice because everyone was all dressed up and you don’t really get to see a lot of the MMA world all dressed up. It was a good time, a good night.

Tam-Star: Like they say, the third time is a charm. So, how do guys react to you when you tell them you are an UFC Octagon Girl?

Arianny: I don’t really talk about it when I meet people and they’re like, what do you do? If they don’t know, I don’t really tell them. If people know I’ll be like, yeah, I work for UFC. From there they’re like oh, she’s kinda cute, I wonder what she does for them. So then eventually I kinda have to tell them.

It’s cool because now that I know about the sport I can talk to guys about it. We’ll talk about some certain fight and be like oh, yeah, that was crazy…or yeah, I can’t believe that happened…I can’t believe the judges called that…or blah, blah, blah.

So it’s cool because I can relate to guys on that level now so it’s kinda nice.

Tam-Star: Great. I know you come from a fitness background, but did you know anything about the UFC before you started working there?

Arianny: Actually, no, I was going to college full time. My major was fitness management/nutrition, so I’ve always had that fitness background. When my agent sent me to this casting I had no idea what UFC was. It hadn’t blown up like it has today, so I was looking at it as just another job, you know?

Tam-Star: I know you were born and raised in Vegas, which is crazy because you hardly ever meet people that are born in Vegas. Going to the left, what do you think is the difference between Las Vegas guys and Los Angeles guys?

Arianny: [laughing] Oh, that’s a tough question. The Los Angeles guys and Las Vegas guys are kind of the same I guess, unless you meet them not in like the Vegas lifestyle. Because everybody in L.A. and Vegas is kinda like flashy and all about money. So I would say they’re kind of the same.

Tam-Star: Mankind Unplugged is all about guys’ stuff from a girl’s view. Guys need a little help when it comes to winning out of the ring per se. What dating rules would you suggest for a guy?

Arianny: I would suggest just to be yourself and make them laugh. Because the worst thing is getting to know someone and having them like be totally cool and then find out they were just putting on a show for you. So, be yourself and make them laugh. Have a good time and I don’t know, just not overdo it. A lot of guys will try a pickup line or try to be super funny by making really lame jokes or something like that; but if you’re just yourself I think that’s the best, even if you’re kind of dorky you know…some girls like that.

Tam-Star: You like dorks?

Arianny: Yeah, I find some dorks very attractive. Like that Facebook movie. I don’t know, Mark Zuckerberg, I mean his brain is sexy, so.

Tam-Star: What would you consider the perfect date?

Arianny: I think dinner before comedy, comedy show or comedy movie or something, preferably a comedy show because you can kinda talk over it, but I love laughing and I love food, so that would be a good combo.

Tam-Star: What would you consider your favorite asset on a man?

Arianny: I think my favorite, or the most important is confidence. When a guy is confident, no matter what he looks like or what his bank account is like, that’s sexy. And with a girl like me there’s a lot of I think jealousy, so a guy has to be confident in order to be with a beautiful woman that holds herself the same way, like in a confident manner. So, to find someone who’s comfortable with themselves and who’s just got their shit together.

Tam-Star: Got it. So what would be your favorite asset in terms of like body part? You look at UFC guys all the time. Do you look at their biceps, do you look at their ass cheeks, their pecs. I know some girls actually like calves…I don’t know. What do you like?

Arianny: I think I’m like a dude, I love a nice ass. Like, I love a nice athletic booty, something to grab onto.

Tam-Star: That’s what I like!

Arianny: Yeah.

Tam-Star: If you were stuck on an island, what UFC fighter would you choose to be stranded with and why?

Arianny: [laughing] Oh, my gosh, I think I would choose Chuck Liddell because he always has hot women with him and he always seems to be fun and like party lifestyle.

Tam-Star: What’s the best thing about being an Octagon Girl?

Arianny: I think the best thing is just you’re right there. You have the best seats in the house. And now the big perk is we’re getting to travel the world. And it’s been so amazing to see all these crazy different places. I think that’s a big plus. And me, I also have a show with them and I’ve always wanted to host a show, so that’s a big benefit working for the UFC and being part of this power brand. It’s amazing.

Tam-Star: Tell us a little bit about the show.

Arianny: The show is called UFC Ultimate Insider. And basically, we get to go behind the scenes with the fighters, behind the scenes pretty much anywhere that’s interesting, that a lot of these shows can’t do because they’re not for UFC. So, we have our own show and it’s produced by UFC producers and all that, so we get all the dirt and all the behind the scenes that other people can’t. So, it’s kinda cool.

Tam-Star: Cool. If you had to choose between Tito Ortiz and Randy Couture, which one would you date?

Arianny: Between Tito and Randy, definitely would choose Randy because Randy is one of the most sweetest, humble guys in the UFC. He’s just so mellow and so nice. I mean you would think someone like him would have a huge ego, but he’s not. No matter who you are he’ll say hi to you and will make you feel just like a regular person. So that’s what I like about him. And Tito on the other hand, I don’t know, not so much.

Tam-Star: Okay, so you know, we hear this word “swagger” a lot, what UFC fighter do you think has the most swagger?

Arianny: Most swagger, hmm. I think there are a couple of them that have their own type of swagger. People like Rampage, he’s got his own swagger; he doesn’t pretend to be like anyone else. In all his interviews he’s the same person, so he’s got swagger too. BJ Penn as well. All of them have their own personality. They stay true to their colors. I think that’s what true swagger is.

Tam-Star: What would people be surprised to know about you?

Arianny: That’s a hard one. I think people have the wrong impression of me. They see me at my best, which is cool, but I’m kind of a nerd. I’m really down to earth and I’m a lot less high maintenance than most people would think. I live on the beach. I live a pretty normal life. And my home life is so much different than my work life; like I have to put on this sexy persona because that’s who I am and like I’ve embraced that and I’m proud of it. But at the same time, when I’m home I have no makeup on, I’m in sweats and a t-shirt, and I’m very low key. I actually mesh into the public a lot.

Tam-Star: That’s actually a cool thing because unfortunately, a lot of guys think that girls who are pretty are very high maintenance. When in fact, a lot of pretty girls are totally opposite. There is a way to be sexy, such as you and pretty while having a career, and really just be a flip flop and beach type of a girl.

Arianny: Yeah, thank you. Yeah, I know when to turn it on. I know when I go to events I’m gonna put full makeup on, full hair, put out the sexy vixen look because that’s what my fans love. But like Twitter I feel is pretty cool because it shows me when I’m just chilling, being normal.

Tam-Star: True. Who leaves the Octagon, Brock or Rampage, meaning if these two were in a cage fighting, who would you put your money on?

Arianny: Oh, wow. I think Brock is a real redneck and he has that attitude, so Rampage would want to bring it on and just show him what his little country swagger is right because he’s from Tennessee I think — I don’t know, um Memphis. So he even, he never changes no matter what in front of anyone. So I think Brock is very misunderstood. Like he has that badass persona, but he’s a sweetheart too, so.

Tam-Star: Okay, well, I know you’ve done FHM and Maxim, but let’s talk about Playboy. What made you decide to do Playboy? Playboy is one of those things, some women dream about it, some women when they’re approached they hesitate to do it, and then others, they enjoy doing it. What made you actually go ahead and do it?

Arianny: Well, as a younger girl I’ve seen the Playboys and I thought oh, my God, they’re so beautiful and I want to be like that one day. And I actually got the opportunity in 2008 to be in the magazine, but at the time I just wasn’t ready mentally I think. I was still really young and I just, I wasn’t ready.

So now, I think as the years have gone by, like I’m much more confident and I feel good in my skin…so sexy, and so I was like you know, why not? And they offered the cover especially, like that goes down in history. There’s books filled with women who have been on the covers. These are women like Marilyn Monroe and Carmen Elektra, and you know, really…I think Carmen Elektra is one of the smartest people I know. She’s played sexy her whole career and has done well and made a living out of it. So that’s not being dumb, that’s being smart to me.

Tam-Star: Yeah, definitely, and like you said, you were at a time when you were feeling sexy and secure, why not. It’s definitely a great career move.

Arianny: Yeah.

Tam-Star: So, kinda switching subjects a little bit, if you had to choose one other Octagon Girl to take with you to the Playboy mansion, which girl would it be?

Arianny: One other Octagon Girl? Uh, [laughing]…

Arianny: I think it would be a tossup between Chandella and Rachelle because no matter what mood they’re in they’re fun. And they’re cool to kick it with. So it would be a tossup because they’re both fun and I love them.

Tam-Star: What did you think about Holly Madison as a guest Octagon Girl for UFC 125?

Arianny: I thought that actually was really cool because it shows what an honor and what a cool thing it is to be an Octagon Girl, because not a lot of girls get to do that. So, bringing a girl like Holly in just shows how cool it is to be a part of this company. And to have that confidence and walk around and look beautiful for the UFC fans. I thought it was really cool.

Tam-Star: Okay, great! Very last question. What can we expect from you in the future?

Arianny: I might possibly be shooting for an Australian magazine once I’m out in Australia for the UFC show. And I have a single coming out. We’ve already recorded it. We started shooting a music video, we just need one more scene. And we’ve been doing it around my schedule, so it’ll be a really cool thing for not only fight fans, but everyone in general. It’s a cool song, it’s called Fight to Love Me.

Tam-Star: Oh, so what type of music?

Arianny: It’s pop/dance. It would definitely be played at the clubs.

With all the excitement building around the rematch of the controversial game between Bloom and Brother Rice players, Heather talked to Boozer about leaving Utah, the huge fan support in Chicago, and he also took the time to answer her rapid-fire questions. THE INTERVIEW

HEATHER: Hey Carlos! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us here on Mankind Unplugged. We do guy stuff from a girl’s view.

CARLOS: Nice.

HEATHER: Congrats on your move from Utah to Chicago. What’s the biggest difference so far comparing the two cities?

CARLOS: Chicago is a much bigger city. There’s so many different sports — with the White Sox, the Cubs, the Bears, the Blackhawks, and obviously the Bulls. But people support. I went to a Cubs game the other day and it was packed. I’m going to a White Sox this upcoming week and it’s gonna’ be packed. Obviously, the Blackhawks won the championship, the Stanley Cup. And we’ve got tons of Bulls fans and Bears fans everywhere. It’s awesome to see the support the city gives its teams.

HEATHER: Sounds like you’ve got your plate full of sports activities.

CARLOS: Yeah.

HEATHER: Comparing the two cities: Utah versus Chicago, what’s the groupie ratio difference?

CARLOS: Chicago is a bigger city, it might be a little bigger in Chicago.

HEATHER: So seriously, what weighed your decision to leave Utah and go to Chicago?

CARLOS: Playing for another amazing franchise, a championship franchise, in a place I thought could compete for a title was very big on my list. Chicago presented that to me. They presented a team that had a bunch of young guys like Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, that were, in my eyes, great young players, with bright futures.

They put a coach in place with Tom Thibodeau that just won a championship in 2008 with the Celtics, and was close to winning another one last year losing in game seven with the Lakers. To me, all those things were encompassing in my decision. I wanted to have a chance to win a championship. I’m happy and proud to be a part of the Chicago Bulls.

HEATHER: To me, Deron Williams is the best point guard in the NBA. I know Derrick Rose is good, but did you see him in the Olympics? How many turnovers is he making? And he’s playing Angola. I gotta ask. Why did you leave Deron Williams all the way out there in Utah by himself?

CARLOS: No, no, I’m gonna tell ya’. Deron has unlimited potential on what he can become. He’s a young star on the rise, crazy potential. Obviously,
Deron back in Utah is phenomenal, only getting better as well. It wasn’t necessarily leaving him; it was just the opportunity to come to Chicago and I thought we have a greater chance of being a championship contender.

But I tell you one thing, D’ron is only gonna get better and better and better. And those words you’re asking me about right now, he’ll answer all those questions for you during the season.

HEATHER: You grew up in Alaska. Did the daylight thing give you any advantage when practicing outside? Were you out there at 3AM?

CARLOS: [laughs] I could be out there as late as I wanted to. The lights were always on, so I got a lot of practice in.

HEATHER: That’s awesome. Tell me a little bit about your involvement with this year’s Gatorade replay.

CARLOS: You know, there’s games you look back on, and wish you could replay those moments. Gatorade has been able to put together this replay that gives athletes the chance to replay the entire game. This upcoming Friday they’ve got Bloom versus Brother Rice. You know, Bloom got the tip in, that controversial should it have counted, shouldn’t it have counted? That’s the question.

But Brother Rice, they get a chance to revenge that loss they thought they should’ve had, at least in overtime in that game. That gives Bloom the chance to prove that chip in wasn’t a fluke. Once you’re an athlete you always feel like you’re an athlete number one. But number two, for these athletes it’s been 10 years. Are they’re out of shape, are they in shape?

Well, Gary was able to use the Gatorade Sports Science Institute to get these guys two months of training and physical education; make sure they’re eating right to get themselves ready for this game on Friday.

I’m looking forward to watching these two teams play, 10-11 years after the game was over, and seeing who’s in shape, who’s ready to go. Because as a fan of basketball, there’s probably about 10-15, 20 games I wish I could go back and replay and see if we could win.

HEATHER: That sounds awesome. You can watch that online as well. We’re gonna’ wrap this up with some rapid fire questions.

CARLOS: Rapid fire, let’s go.

CARLOS: Oh, Coach K NBA because KK college is something else.

HEATHER: What’s more entertaining, Alaskan sled dog race or a Sarah Palin speech?

CARLOS: Alaskan sled dog race. That’s a good one though.

HEATHER: If you had to pick, would you take a “10″ with bad breath or a “7″ with good breath, a good body, an average face, maybe she’s got a cockeye?

CARLOS: I’d rather have the dime because I could always make sure she brushes her teeth everyday and get her some Tic Tacs.

HEATHER: There’s some robbery going on in your profession right now; are you wearing decoy jewelry or the real jewelry?

CARLOS: I’m gonna’ wear the real jewelry.

HEATHER: Last one: game seven, championship title on the line, Derrick Rose or Deron Williams?

CARLOS: I’m going with D. Rose because he’s gonna’ be on my team shooting for it.

She’s busy alright, but still made time to sit with Mankind Unplugged’s Heather Welborn and Super Bowl champion Jason David to talk about “Guy Stuff” from a “Girl’s View.” Read what Michelle had to say in the first part of our interview here.

Mankind Unplugged: Do you have any celebrity crushes?

Michelle: Well, the obvious, George Clooney, because that’s what I’m supposed to say. I joke around about so-and-so is hot. But more times than not when you meet them you get disappointed. So they’re perfect in my mind and I don’t wanna’ meet any of the ones that I have crushes on…disappointing.

Mankind Unplugged: Do you get more disappointed with the Hollywood guys versus the athletes?

Michelle: Well, the Hollywood guys in the sense that they’re short for the most part.

Jason: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!

Mankind Unplugged: In your opinion, what’s better? Being on People Magazine’s Beautiful People list or on Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women list?

Michelle: Oh God, I’d take the Forbes. Yeah, that’s Oprah territory- I’ll take that one. People, I mean I’m sure it’s flattering, but for the most part you don’t really have a whole lot of control over whether or not you’re beautiful. So the Forbes thing, definitely hands down.

Mankind Unplugged: If you could replace Colin with a female co-host, who would it be?

Michelle: Oh, no one has ever made me say female. I guess Chelsea Handler could be pretty funny.

Jason: I’ve got a funny story about Mr. Wiley and you can give him a hard time about it. We were at the McCray’s wedding. He was dancing the whole night. I don’t think he came off the dance floor, not once. So when you see him, ask him to show you some of his dance moves.

Michelle: He’s one of the biggest life forces that I know. He’s just awesome to be around. Was he sweating up a storm?

Jason: Oh was he. His tie was sweating.

Michelle: [laughing] He sweats standing. I can’t imagine if he danced all night. I love it!

Mankind Unplugged: How do you feel about women tennis players grunting during the matches? I just kind of get a little uneasy.

Michelle: You don’t really realize how loud it is until…once in a while I’ll have it on in the background and it just stops me. I always imagine taking my dad to the tennis match. I think I would feel uncomfortable. It’s like when you watch your first movie with all the love scenes and your dad is in the room.

Mankind Unplugged: Michelle, we thank you so much for spending some time with us even though we’re out here on the west coast.

Michelle: I’m not gonna’ get in trouble for Laker hatin’ am I because you know, I have to.

Jason: Well, we’re not friends anymore.

Mankind Unplugged: I’m not from L.A. so don’t worry.

Michelle: Awesome you guys. And by the way, I do love the website. It’s good and I just think it’s cool.
