Green Hat Distillery: Gin Named After A Bootlegger, Whistleblower, And History Maker

Green Hat Distillery Gin

Gin is not for the faint of heart. Whether you like your gin in the finest cocktails or with a small cube in a gin-lover’s neat glass, gin is without a doubt the modern gentleman’s perfect life-style accessory. Ask any woman about their accessories and she is sure to share a passionate story. Why not drink a super-premium gin with an artisanal spirit and a history that is a perfect conversation starter? From the sentimental name, to the highly appropriate location of the distillery, and their commitment to both passion and quality, Green Hat Gin is a blend of style as well as substance with a truly unique story to share.

The origin of Green Hat Gin’s name can be traced all the way back to the 1920s Prohibition era. Specifically, a vet named George Cassiday, one of the most passionate bootleggers, whistleblowers, and history makers of his time. He bravely spoke out against the Prohibition, and eventually began supplying bootleg liquor in the Washington D.C. area. He was finally caught in 1925 by the Capitol Police, wearing (you guessed it) his signature green felt hat, earning him the title of “The Man in the Green Hat.” He went on to write many news articles, discussing his experiences and detailing the hypocrisy of Capitol Hill Congressmen who bought liquor from him but then imposed the strict Prohibition rules on the rest of America. All the while, he continued to sell his liquor. Cassiday’s courageous spirit, candor, and commitment to his cause carried on to inspired Green Hat Distillery to run their company with the exact same values.

The Clasic Gin Cocktail Gen Hat

Superior quality is the pride and heartfelt focus of Green Hat Distillery. The distillery brings homage, unbridled passion, and superior quality to the gin industry. Every single Green Hat Gin product is distilled by hand from 100% grain, select botanicals, and is made in small batches in a copper pot still. Today, the company has five distinct categories of gin for your tasting pleasure:

Classic Gin is ideal for mixing into fine cocktails or serving on its own with small ice cubes. It is crafted with juniper, light citrus, coriander spice, root botanicals, grains of paradise pepperiness, and an herbal hint of celery. This blend gives it a unique, substantially enjoyable complexity.

Navy Strength is a limited edition gin with Superman-like intensity. It has a higher proof than the other gins, meaning it is even stronger, so proceed with caution with this one!

Spring/Summer is a seasonally appropriate, limited edition gin that is blended with juniper, floral cherry blossom, clover, rosemary, and fresh citrus.

Fall/Winter is another seasonally appropriate, limited edition gin that is blended with juniper, caraway, rye grain, and exotic spices. It then undergoes a barrel aging process that gives it a distinct mellowness.

Summer Cup, also known as Summer Fruit Cup or Fruit Cup, is a traditional British type of gin-based drink. It is concocted by infusing the company’s Navy Strength gin with ample amounts of citrus, rosehips, cucumber, black tea, verbena, lavender, and various other herbs and spices. The mixture is then combined with Capitoline White Vermouth, resulting in a one-of-a-kind beverage that is ideal with lemonade, ginger ale, and/or fruit.
