Review: Showtime ‘Shameless’ Series Premiere

Showtime’s “Shameless” was definitely shamelessly funny! Originally a show from the U.K, the US version which stars William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher, the alcoholic and negligent dad of seven kids is a great addition to the original programming of Showtime.

When I first saw the previews with William H. Macy slurring his words all over my TV screen, I thought to myself this show could be interesting. Thanks to Showtime’s never ending marketing and great promotion of the show (unlike other shows), I remembered to watch the premier episode last night. I am glad I did as this is one show that definitely lived up to the hype. For a family dramedy, I was not expecting to be entertained by watching a young girl give blow jobs, a car thieve, a drunken father, and a married Indian guy hooking up with a teenage boy.

So far my favorite character is Fiona, played by Emmy Rossum the eldest child of the Gallagher clan. Fiona is very complex, but witty and seems to be the glue that holds the family together. Although the first episode didn’t show much of Debbie (middle sister of the Gallagher children), I have a feeling she is going to be very entertaining and one to watch as the show progresses.

Shameless is clever, funny, thoughtfully written, and offers just the right amount of drama without being over the top. If you missed the first episode, I encourage you to take a sneak peak below and to make sure you tune into Showtime to catch the next air date.
