As a man, even if you may not be skilled at interior design, there are some simple things you can do to make your bachelor pad look more sophisticated. Here are some of them.
1. Play with colors
Blue is the color that’s often associated with men, but you don’t have to furnish your entire place with this color from top to bottom. Other colors are just as masculine and will give your space some flair — think greens, taupes, and greys. You can even opt for bright colors like orange, red, or yellow. If you’re worried it might make your space look too feminine, start with a few accent pieces such as with pillowcases or candle holders.
2. Add multi-purpose storage
Keep your place as neat as possible, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning up every time you need to bring friends or a lady over. You can stay organized by investing in multi-functional furniture that doubles as storage for your items. Additional storage allows you to put things away with little hassle. Some good multi-use storage includes wooden benches with storage underneath, an ottoman, and a stylish drawer. Invest in a few of these so you’ll always have a clutter-free room.
3. Get a good mattress
By a good mattress, we mean a really good one. Don’t just go for the obvious soft mattress. They’re bad for your back. Opt for one that’s just the perfect balance of soft and firm. These types of mattresses are more durable and won’t hurt your spine in the long run. Also, you want to find a mattress size perfect for you. A queen-size mattress will fit two people, but if you’re looking for more room to roll around, king-size is best.
4. Add lighting
The right lighting can create a pleasant mood in your space. Instead of opting for just the standard white light bulb, you can also add one that emits a soft warm glow. This is best used in the evenings as it instantly creates a relaxing atmosphere. Have your fixtures set up so you can easily switch use between these two light bulbs?
5. Have an entertainment space
This space is great for entertaining yourself and your friends. It also allows you to separate your public space from your private space (your bedroom!). The entertainment area can consist of the TV, video game consoles, a mini-fridge, liquor bottles, a pool table, etc.
6. Bring in the beverage
If you enjoy liquor now and then, you should have a bar cart. This will hold all of your favorite beverages and the accessories required for making cocktails for when you have company. Nothing is more impressive than being able to whip up a drink in an instant.
7. Change your sheets
Studies have shown that single men don’t change their sheets as often as they should. You always want to have a fresh change of sheets ready in your closet. And set a schedule for when they need to be changed, whether it’s every week or every two weeks. It’s a quick and easy way to freshen up your room.
8. Skip the furniture set
Sure, it takes away the hassle of buying multiple furniture, but it’s not going to look good in your pad. It’s lazy and unimaginative. Take your time buying furniture and only get those that you really like and would work with your current decor. Over time, you’ll have a furnished space that reflects your taste, and you’ll always enjoy being in it. Bonus points if you’re able to impress your date with your furniture choices.
